Double Freesia

Fortunately a larger number of entries and the last couple of years. It can be concluded that the double assortment is enlarged with better quality and graciousness of the flowers.

Van den Bos Freesia BV from Honselersdijk entered the double yellow 'Clarissa'in a special quality and gained 9.44 points, hereby closely winning of P. Hofland BV from 's-Gravenzande with the yellow 'Boulevard', which gained 9.45 points. The winner became a double red cultivar under bumber, which shows that the development of the red segment goes on. Penning Freesia BV from Honselersdijk had the honour of receiving the first Keukenhof Award of 2010 for this cultivar with beautiful large flowers.

 Single Freesia

Nearly fourty entries for this part of the show. Many entries came under number, which shows that the developments in the single flowering assortment are in full swing. The public will be happy to learn that the fragrance becomes more important again. Also the size gives an improvement of the value. Van den Bos gained 9.44 points with Pink Passion, a dark pink cultivar which won the Jan Goemans Trophy two years ago.  P. Hofland BV from 's-Gravenzande scored 9.47 points with the yellow Freesia 'Rio', and became the winner of the Keukenhof Award with 'Claire', a true show freesia, with large flowers and a perfect shape (9.56 points).

Growers

Double

Because of the cold weather and little sun the season started late, which resulted in presentations of less ripe cultivars. However the competition at the top was exciting: three cultivars scored the same amount of points for the second place with 9.44 pionts: the red Freesia 'Red Beauty'from Tesselaar freesia CV from Heerhugowaard, John Kunst Bloemkw. from Heerhugowaard with the pink 'Honeymoon' and lastly again the 'Honeymoon', now from M.C. Zwinkels & Zn from Poeldijk. The winner scored 9.50 points: Mandarine by VOF M. & A. Barendse from 's-Gravenzande. This special double cultivar with large flowers was absolutely striking and the true winner of the first prize with the Keukenhof Award.

Single

Kwekerij Hofland Freesia from Maasdijk became third with Freesia Ambiance, a cream white cultivar which gained 9.46 points. Even better scored De Heufkens from Poederoyen with an also cream white cultivar 'Ambassador', which gained 9.51 points. The big winner was John Kunst Bloemkw. from Heerhugowaard with a real show Freesia 'Claire'. 9.66 points, the first Prize and the Freesia Keukenhof Award 2010 were gained for this absolute top quality Freesia.

Stands

Penning Freesia from Honselersdijk, P. Hofland from ’s-Gravenzande, LTO Groeiservice Freesia, Naaldwijk en Van den Bos Freesia from Honselersdijk were all in the race for a stand prize. Because of the large assortment and striking quality Van den Bos Freesia  with 9.56 point by far won the first Award Freesia Stands.
