Red Passion winner Jan Goemand Freesia Trophy 2010

The yearly competitition of the Jan Goemans Freesia Trophy proves the possibilities of a relatively small crop. Innovation is investing in the future. The winning cultivar should be an improvement in for instance keepability, production, quality, cultivation methods to the existing assortment. Also it must be a commercially interesting addition to the assortment.

Fifteen cultivars were in the race this year: Van den Bos Freesia  presented Fiery Bell, Rubina River, Apricot Mountain, Red Passion, en Clarissa. De firma Royal van Zanten entered Soleil, Sunny Beach, Tournesol, Costa, Indigo Beach.  Penning Freesia sent in Red Beauty and Diamond Star. P. Hofland had Bohemian, Maya en Rio as candidates.

The winner 2010 became a beautiful single flowering red Freesia with a striking bud presentation: a real improvement of the red segment with beautiful round flowers and a long and firm stem. Van den Bos Freesia from Honselersdijk sent in this super addition to the assortment.
