More Chrysanthemums at Keukenhof

During the last few y ears the number of entries for various Chrysanthemum contests had decreased. Especially in economically hard years, we see that participants are keen to show their products. This year 230 entries were made and presented in arrangements to make them more attractive to the public. However this made it more difficult for the VKC-jury to judge the products appropriately. Criteria were quality of the flower in shape and colour, branch structure and number of flowers, uniformity of the entry and purity of leaf and flower.

Pot chrysanthemums

'Sylvinho'with a white and green colour in good quality was entered by Armada from De Lier. The compact, rich flowering plant gained 9.20 points and the Award for the best pot chrysanthemum.

Chrysanthemums with filled flowers

More than 40 entries with a virtually equal quality. The best entries gained 9.20 and 9.30 points. Toppers however were 'Zembla Cream'and the 'Zembla' of F1 Lewis Flowers from Tuil with 9.50 points, which also was true for Bovebo BV from Hensbroek with the anemone flowering new cultivar 'Saba'. Another 'Zembla' of Laurens v.d. Land from 's-Gravenzande scored the same amount of points , but nobody could touch the score of 9.52 points for 'Lollipop'from Zentoo, Maasland, who gained the Award in this competition.

Spider and spoon flowering chrysanthemums

Third came De Waal Tuil BV from Tuil with 9.45 points. Second was Bovebo BV from Hensbroek with Chrysanthemum 'Spinner', a white spider with a green heart which was presented in great uniformity. The winner became the pink spoon spider of Dekker Breeding BV, Hensbroek with Gipsy, who gained the Award with 9.53 points.

Santini chrysanthemums

'Paddy', green coloured and uniform branches  by C. van Wijk from Poederoijen gained 9.45 points. The same was true for QfG Mts. V.d. Westeringh from Varik, who also won this competition with Madiba Lindi White with 9.50 points.

Spray chrysanthemums

A uniform entry of Aad Persoon from Poeldijk with Anastasia Sunny gained 9.52 points. F1 Flower Kwekerij Waalzicht from Nieuwaal became second with the pink cultivar Rossano. The nice hard flower was striking of colour and gained 9.55 points. This firm also delivered the number one in this competition: the white cultivar 'Anastasia' gained 9.60 points.

Single flowering chrysanthemums

The largest competition with nearly 100 entries. Fides BV from De Lier entered an interesting red cultivar under number which gained 9.52 points. They also scored good, 9.53 points with Grand Orange. Second became A.H. van Staalduinen & Zn BV from 's-Gravenzande with 'Astec', a single flowered white cultivar, technically well grown: 9.54 points.
