VGB Award for Sjaak Koene with Avalanche at Rose Judging Keukenhof
01-04-2010
For the first time Keukenhof dedicated a rose contest to trade quality in wrapping of A1 and A1 Plus roses with extra large buds. VKC has been asked to form a special jury for this category, and determine objective criteria: shape of flower and bud, colour of flower and bud, ripeness of the entry, stem and leaf quality and way of presentation in a special sleeve. Eight jurymembers judged appr. a50 entries, and stated that in comparison to the last couple of years the quality has been improving.
VGB (Society of Retailers of Floricultural Products) awards the VGB Award since a great number of years; this time three nominees were in the race for a higly valued Extra Certificate: Poot Rozen from Nieuwerkerk a/d IJssel, Rozenkw. Sjaak Koene uit De Lier and Porta Nova from Waddinxveen. Third in the category the best A 1 quality came the pink rose Aqua with 9.35 points: a perfect bunch, nicely uniform of shape and colour. The grower was Poot Rozen VOF from Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel.
Second in the category A1 Plus came Red Naomi of Porta Nova from Waddinxveen, with a nice presentation of large dark red uniform flowers, nicely presented in a sleeve: 9.55 points. The big winner though gained the optimal score 9.70 points: the white Avalanche, a vase of roses in optimal shape and colour. The flowers and buds, the strong straight stem and clean leaves, prresented in a perfect sleeve took care of an ultimate A1 plus quality for trade. The VGB Award thus was for Rozenkw. Sjaak Koene & Zn. from De Lier.
