VKC Rose committee content about trade quality
07-04-2010
At Keukenhof history was written. For the first time in history a presentation was created for rose, where the rose was presented all round its life, showing phases of trade, cultivation and retail. For these three groups different groups of jurys were requested to judge the products. Many prizes were available, such as the VGB Award (Society of Retailers of Floricultural Products), The VBW Award (Society of Florists) and also Keukenhof offered new Awards. These Keukenhof Awards were granted as follows:
Roses from breeders
A good assortment was presented. De Ruiter Innovations BV from Amstelveen had an excellent presentation with the uniform large pink cultivar Wham. The firm stem and beautiful green leaves were good for 9.17 points. The same result was gained by Schreurs Holland BV from De Kwakel, with the showrose 'Heaven', a light pink cultivar. The qualifications were: a nice uniformity of flowers, the beautiful clean leaves and the uniform flower colour. Schreurs had another cultivar lined up: the new White Naomi became the winner in this category. The jury was impressed by the beautiful large round flowers, with a beautiful long, straight stem. The uniformity of all flowers was striking and thus awarded with 9.36 and the Award for the best breeder.
Spray roses from growers
This judgement is about the flowering out of roses which were entered in A1 quality. A number of Avalanche types (entered as sprays) were present. Mimi Eden from Esmeralda Farms from Aalsmeer was called the best. The jury mentioned the full spray, the large quantity of buds and flowers and beautifully grown branches: 9.21 points and the winner of the Award.

Rozenkw. Sjaak Koene & Zn. from De Lier is always going for gold: they entered a fantastic vase with white Avalanche. Meijer Roses from Pijnacker became the winner though with 9.49 points with an also white Avalanche. Great large flowers, all uniform in a beautiful quality with super long and special long stems were reasons enough to make this entry the winner in this competition. Besides the Award the entry also gained the designation Best Rose of Keukenhof 2010.
