Attractive assortment of Gerberas at Keukenhof

08-04-2010

The versatility of Gerbera is shown optimally. The large variation in colour, striking flowers, quality, but also the ways to show Gerbera, are superbly shown at the Oranje Nassau Pavillion at Keukenhof. Three competitions were opened: for large flowering, small flowering cultivars and a competition for the best novelties.

Novelties

The number of entries amounted twenty. The jury spoke of an innovating assortment. Terra Nigra BV gained 9.33 points with Snowcap; Schreurs Holland BV had Gerbera 'Albion'with 9.42 points as best entry. Holstein Flowers from De Lier took the lead though for the three highest scores with 'Dutch Pride', a red/white 'Sorbet' and 'Italo'. The last one was chosen to be the best novelty. A pink gerbera with a black heart, but a more striking colour than many a pink cultivar. The entry gained 9.48 points and the Award was thus for Holstein Flowers from De Lier.

Large flowering Gerbera

A limited number of entries of appr. thirty, because of the developments in the market, where mini-gerberas are more popular nowadays. Villa Gerbera from Honselersdijk became third with the yellow/orange cultivar Fabio, with 9.42 points. With 9.44 points Gerbera 'Nuance' by Mts. S.C. Zwarts from Mijdrecht became second and the winner became Holstein Flowers with the same cultivar 'Nuance', 9.46 points and the 1st Award.

Gerbera Mini

Appr. fifty entries with a better quality than the last show. Yet there were differences within the entries, especially with respect to uniformity. Third became Holstein Flowers with the orange/yellow cultivarCinema with a striking colour, which gained 9.52 points. Even better was the same firm with the red 'Burgundy', a single flowered gerbera with a black heart, in a perfect quality. The big winner was the old cultivar 'Kimsey'. This half filled gerbera had a perfect shape, ripeness and stem quality, opposed to the other entries of the same cultivar. This super vase gave the highest score of 9.54 points and thus became the Gerbera of Keukenhof 2010 and also received the Award. Responsible for this achievement was Van der Wilt Gerbera's from Mijdrecht.
