Rose village Lottum decorated through the Week of the Potrose
For the 4th time the Week of the Potrose was organised in 'De Rozenhof' in Lottum. VKC was requested to perform judging with an independent, specialised jury. With this show the organisation likes to show this product to the public by showing all kinds of applications of roses in pot for garden and terrace and thus to promote the rose. Many more entries were to be seen (+ 60% in relation to 2009). Various categories were judged:
- Min. 5 potroses ('window sill plants')
- 3 rose pots per variety, 3-5 liter terrace plants
- min. 1 rose pot per variety, > 5 liter terrace plants
- Total presentation of roses in pot.
In total 174 entries were made.
In the first category 40 entries were shown by 5 participants. The jury was praising the quality, which was better than last year. Third became BM Roses from Maasland with the pink-purple rose Purple Jewel, with 9.25 points. Second became Boomkwekerij Vosbeek-v.d. Berg from Lottum with the dark red Carmen Parade, which was praised because of its very compact uniform plants with a beautiful leaf colour: 9.30 points. Nolina Boomkwekerij from Woubrugge showed Honora Hit. This white flower was beautiful in contrast with its dark leaves of good, heavy an sturdy quality. It scored 9.33 points and the Prize for 'Best Potrose'.
Terrace roses were judged on the criteria, habitus, richness of flowering, free of diseases and uniformity.
In the category 3 pots 3-5 liter the T-hybrids and Floribundas dominated. In total 65 entries were made by nine participants. The winning products were all characteristic in their richness of flowering. Third became the rose Dacapo by Frank Coenders from Grubbenvorst. The red small flowering climber had a bushy crop with many flower buds, which were uniform. They scored 9.13 points. Rosarium Dura Rose from Blitterswijck were able to become second with the white spray rose Artemis. The sturdy plants with pure white flowers were abundant in flowering and scored 9.25 points. Frank Coenders from Grubbenhorst also received the firstprize with Fiji. This cream coloured rose with pink edge received 9.53 points and the denomination Best Rose in Pot < 5 liters because of the ripeness stage of this T-hybrid. Each shoot had an open flower and many buds.
The terrace roses > 5 liters were represented in 55 entries of seven participants. Also here Frank Coenders from Grubbenvorst went for the higher prizes. Third became the red rose 'Heidefeuer' by Rosa Mundo from Meerlo with a good presentation, striking colour and richness in flowering: 9.03 points. The two toppers in this category by Frank Coenders were good for a second place with the cream/yellow coloured Floribunda Kronprinzessin Mary. The stretched, sturdy plants with a fine pot plant relation received a score of 9.15 points, but was beaten by the beautiful filled flower Eden rose '85. With respect to this cultivar with light pink heart the jury spoke of a very good growing achievement with a beautiful compact, uniform plant with a great pot/plant relation. With 9.18 points this entry scored the first place and the Prize: Best Rose in pot > 5 liters.
For the total presentation Rose in pot 14 contestants were in the race. Lakei Boomkwekerijen from Lottum scored 9.20 points and a third place for a white assortment of fragrant roses with special colours. Second came Rosa Mundo from Meerlo with 9.30 points for a concept in which the rose was sown in many ways. Boomkwekerij Vosbeek-v.d. Berg BV from Lottum choose to show a contemporary presentation with a widely varying and beautiful assortment with beautiful pots. This presentation was good for 9.40 points and the First Prize Presentation Rosa.
