FloraHolland Flower Festival in Noordwijk gains strength and quality

The true flower lover can eat his heart out in the Old Jeroenskerk in Noordwijk Binnen; last year this show was held for the first time with 150 entries, this year even more contestants found their way to the church for this event. Nearly 200 entries were offered for judging. An offer of a wide assortment with many interesting products, which makes a visit to this show worth while. Besides summerflowers, bulbous flowers and yearround products also potplants were present. Not only in number this show grows, but also in quality.

Potplants

Kalanchoe, pot Phalaenopsis, pot Anthurium and Cyclamen were present. The entry of Hofzicht BV Rijnplant Group from De Lier with its Anthurium Ariane Orange was beautiful. An Anthurium with beautiful flowers in the top of the crop and a special leaf colour which gained 9.40 points. Even better did Zuijdgeest De Lier with its filled flowered Kalanchoe 'Middler', a Calandiva white with pink flowers, a compact flower shape in the correct ripeness stage. The jury was very impressed however, by the entry of Cyclamen Super Serie Verano mixed. The same contestant as last year again showed 5 cm pots with in all 10 pots nearly the same amount of beautifully uniform flowers. This entry gained 9.6 points and the first prize Potplants.

Bulbous crops

A beautiful assortment of Gladiolus, Nerine, Lilium, Zantedeschia and Freesia and other bulbous crops of a better quality than last year. Third became W. van Saase & Zn. from De Zilk with the orange gladiolus 'Manteca', with 9.36 points.

The mixed Nerine by Agro Fleur BV from Roelofarendsveen was innovating and gained 9.38 points and ended second. Winner was a special bulbous crop, Scadoxus 'Orange Wonder'. The Dutch name is 'powder brush', which gives the best description of the flower, which is formed by more than 20 small flowers and shaped like a brush. The flower from South Africa was entered by R.M. Koning from Hoogwoud and valued as best bulbous flower with 9.44 points.

 

Yearround cutflower

Cut Anthurium, Gerbera, Chrysanthemum, Dianthus, Rose and Lisianthus were in the race. Chrysanthemum 'Spinner'by Zentoo from Poeldijk scored high: 9.29 points. Also the cut Phalaenopsis 'Kobe' by Ichtus Flowers from Waddinxveen was striking because of its beautiful white flowers (9.33 points). Avalanche+ by Rozenkwekerij Sjaak Koene & Zn from De Lier scored best with 9.36 points: all floweres uniform, nice long stems, good leaves and perfect of ripeness.

Summer flowers

A great assortment; top quality! The mixed vase Delphinium by Delphiniumkw. N.G. Wigchert from Noordwijkerhout scored 9.45 points and became third. Second was Hydrangea macrophylla 'Pimpernel', which gained the Noordwijk Summerflowers prize. G.J.A. van Santen from Honselersdijk was responsible for this uniform product with perfect flowers, stem steadiness, size of the flowers and scored 9.47 points.

The big winner was also a Hydrangea. The double flowered You and Me Together scored best: 9.48 points gained by the winner of the show, Kwekerij V.d. Zwet BV from Zuidbroek.
