25th National Summer Flowers Exhibition Naaldwijk

This show proves to be one of the best in its kind in the Netherlands during the last 25 years. Not only in our country, but also abroad this show is sen as the most important summer flowers presentation in the world, where also international entries are seen. With 425 entries the VKC jury had quite a job in judging all the products for which 24 prizes were available.

 Celosia

A crop from the tropics which has made a spectaculair development during the last few years, is the Celosia. This year this crop was the theme flower of the exhibition. Winner in this big competition became Celosia argenta 'Captain Red'. This new Captain-series was striking and the deep fluorescent red colour of this variety gained 9.45 points. Combinations BV from 's-Gravenzande was the entrant.

Lisianthus (Eustoma)

Winner in this competition became J. Beishuizen from Maasdijk with Croma White, a new white Lisianthus with in the top a nice fat bud and great flowers. The shape of the flowers was super and crowned with 9.63 as best.

Delphinium

A top achievement was presented with the two coloured cultivar (pink and blue) Dewi Araik. The jury was impressed by the large flowers, uniform stems, all at the correct ripeness stage. The highest score of the exhibition was given: 9.7 for Delphiniumkw. N.G. Wigchert from Noordwijkerhout.

Decorative fruits

Chris v.d. ende from Pijnacker showed how to advertise decorative fruits in a huge basket with more than 60 different little fruits in all shapes and colours, all of a great quality: 9.55 points was awarded.

Helianthus

Yellow is still the most important colour in the summer flowers, although nowadays also orange and brownish Helianthus are present at this show. Although the weather conditions were not optimal Kwekerij Luime from Ouddorp was able to show an impressive Sunrich Orange and scored 9.43 points and the prize.

Limonium

A small assortment of great quality was shown. A.J. Voskamp showed the best product: Hot Pink Diamond, which was awarded with 9.41 points.

  

Antirrhinum

Flora Delight from Leiderdorp came with two products: the 'Potomac Rose', which was awarded with 9.30 points and the winner: 'Potomac White'; the jury spoke of a beautiful, compact straight stem with plenty of flowers of exact ripeness. 9.31 points were awarded.

Bulbous crops

Dahlias were well represented at the show. Best became the Karma Fiesta with wonderful orange/red flowers, uniformly flowering; awarded with 9.60 points for Gebr. Verwer from Lisse.

      

Gladiolus

A product which cannot be missed at this show. The pink cultivar with white bottom became 'Pink Lady'. The ruffled flowers were uniform and scored highest with 9.37 points; the prize was for Mts. de Jong from Ouddorp.

Exotics

Products as Gloriosa, Curcuma, Heliconia, Anigozanthos are hard to compare, but very interesting for the visitor of the show. Curcuma 'Siam Sitrone'by KP Holland from Naaldwijk became first; the lemoncoloured flower is not an every day product and was of the best quality. The product scored 9.40 points!

Aster

The big winner became Armada from De Lier with the soft blue cultivar 'Cassandra'. The product scored 9.50 points and the prize was for Armada from De Lierr.

Hydrangea

A jewel of a Hortensia was  Verena Classic by De Greeve from Berkel and Rodenrijs; this product scored 9.68 points.

Summer flowers

Carthamus tinctorius ‘Zanzibar’ gained 9.45 points and the prize was for Rovers Sierteelt from De Mortel, Belgium. Also from abroad was the entry by Marginpar BV from Uitgeest: Ergyngium Sirius Questar was well presented and gained 9.44 and the prize. Another topper was Hypericum Coco Jambo by Vloet Bloemisterijen from St. Hubert: 9.45 points. Vet Boon from Ursum showed Brassica 'Crane Pink'  in super quality and was awarded 9.45 points. Astilbe 'Erika', a pink cultivar with a heavy quality by Mts. Van Aert-Herijgers & Zn. from Breda gained 9.45 points.

Ruud Klein from Roelofarendsveen entered Veronica Smart Alien, which seems to be a wonderful new addition for the future. The great uniformity of all stems were worth 9.48 points and a prize. The last two prizes were for Tracheliums. H.A. van Klink & Zn. BV from Buitenkaag came with Trachelium  Supreme White and scored 9.45 points. The Tracheliullm Blue Lake Michigan outdid this product though: Firma Bosdijk from Nieuwe Wetering gained 9.48 points and the prize.

Conclusion

The National summer flowers exhibition stands for quality and this was definitely shown at this 25th jubilee exhibition.
