Midwinterflora successful
The various contests on the 26th Midwinterflora at Lisse were judged by 30 VKC jury members. The task for the jury was not an easy one, as the quality in the top was extraordinary, but came to the following results.
Narcissus
C.S. Weijers & Zn BV from Hillegom ended in the top three with the entry Narcissus 'Inbal': 9.3 points. Second came W.F. Leenen & Zn from Sassenheim with a beautiful double narcissus 'Play Fair', which was striking because of the uniform presentation: 9.4 points. The winner became the seedling from H.M. Meeuwissen-Voorthout from Voorhout with a real pot narcissus, which had a striking colour: a small yellow narcissus with an orange star in the cup. The richflowering cultivar was in good relation with flower, leaf and length and received the first prize with 9.50 points.
Hippeastrum (Amaryllis)
A somewhat general quality without real toppers. Floralia from 's-Gravenzande scored 9.35 points with the white cultivar 'Matterhorn'. Winner became fa. Gebr. V.d. Velden from 's-Gravenzande with 'Luna'. A complete and uniform pot amaryllils with a white/yellow colour scored the first prize with 9.40 points.
Hyacinths
CNB Hyacintenteam showed a wonderful assortment in many different colours. It was a shame that the number of hyacinths per entry varied so much, which made comparison difficult. 'Gipsy Queen', also entered by CNB Hyacintenteam was shown in a good quality for the time of year. VOF Orientalis from Anna Paulowna showed a near perfect entry of Hyacinth 'Sweetheart', and scored 9.15 points, because of the beautiful spray in a striking pink colour. The prize however was for CNB Hyacintenteam with the blue hyacinth 'Rembrandt'. A beautiful spray was formed, which was in the ultimate relation between flower, leaf and stem. The correct preparation gave a wonderful qualilty which was good for the first prize with 9.20 points.
Special bulbous crops
A beautiful assortment with many crops. C.S. Weijers & Zn BV from Hillegom showed two Nerine entries of great qualilty. The white Cripsa-hybrids and the red 'Corusca Major'both scored 9.23 points. His best entry gained the second place with Eucharis 'Amazonica', which was a perfect cutflower with royal allure, crowned with 9.35 points. The winner became the light blue Muscari 'Atlantic' by Paul van Bentum Bloembollen from Noordwijk. The jury was impressed by the beautiful short Muscari. The uniformity was perfect and crowned with i9.38 points and the first prize.
Zantedeschia
Unfortunately only one entry, Kapiteyn Group from Breezand entered with 'Captain Safari'and scored 9.36 points and obviously the first prize.
Lily
Together with the tulips the crop which was best represented at this Midwinterflora. Mak Breeding from Wieringerwerf had its best entry with the white Oriental 'Ortolan', which had big buds and beautiful leaves; they scored 9.33 points. The best pot lily also came from Mak: 'Tiny Rocket'scored 9.15 points. Royal Van Zanten from Hillegom scored highest with 9.30 points for the white Signum. The big winner became Marklily CV from Lisse with the dark pink OT lily 'Robina'. The uniformity, the correct ripeness stage, the large buds: superquality which was good for the first prize with 9.35 points.
Tulips
Appr. 30 entries of cut tulips were shown. Good flower quality, the correct ripeness stage, clean leaves and uniformity of the entry are the main criteria for judgement. Triflor BV from Oude Niedorp had the best entry with the mauve cultivar 'Cognac'. The striking colour and the beautiful double flower were good for 9.17 points. The best qualilty however was seen with the pot tulips, where more than 100 entries were offered for judgement. Maveridge Int. from St. Maarten became third with Dow Jones'and 'Apricot Delight' with 9.35 points because of the heavy quality of the flower. Second became the red 'Alcatraz'by Hybris from Slootdorp, an entry which was perfect in relation with the correct ripeness stage and flower size: 9.38 points.
The big winner became Marax Tulips VOF from Venhuizen. They scored highest with 9.40 points for the beautiful quality of red/white tulips under number. A perfect relation between length, flower, stem led to this first prize.
