Keukenhof, Forced shrubs

28-03-2011

During a great many years already forced shrubs are presented at Keukenhof. Besides lilacs and snowballs (Viburnum) also Forsythia are shown.

Various contests were judged in vases and for lilac even two contests were made. 'Madame Florent Stepman' was the only represented product in the white lilac group and for the time being W. Kazemier from Aalsmeer got the first prize with a lilac with good ripeness, which was flowering richly and had beautiful branches. The highest score was 9.64.

In the group Other Lilacs more contestants were present. The pink Syringa 'Maiden's Blush' received the highest score for now: 9.63 for full sprays of good colour and in a super quality. Klaas Joren Gzn. from Aalsmeer was the owner of this crop.

Viburnum roseum is a product which has been entered often in the past by Media Verdi VOF from Aalsmeer. Also this year they scored high: 9.54 and the first prize. His entry had nice heavy balls, which were well branched. The uniformity of the entry was stunning.

In the category Other forced shrubs W.J. Rijlaarsdam from Nieuwkoop showed a near perfect entry of Forsythia 'Lynwood Gold'. The entry had uniform long branches, a perfect, rich number of flowers on the branch. The entry scored 9.58 points.
