Top quality hyacinths at Keukenhof

28-03-2011

The hyacinth is attached to Keukenhof and the Bulb Region historically, and of course with the flower corso. The flower which carries the corso, we sometimes say.

For a show like this one at Keukenhof, where the general public is the main visitor, the added value of hyacinths is a nice, and not unimportant detail. The hyacinths shown were of good qualilty. Keukenhof awarded the best entry per contest with a special Award and the very best hyacinth of the total indoor exhibition was to get the beautiful Keukenhof Prize. The results were as follows:

Pink/red/orange
When judging hyacinths the uniformity, shape and correct location of the nails is important; also the correct relation between flower pot and leaf determine a high socre. The quality in the pink cultivars was great - compliments to the entrants. VOF Orientalis gained 9.2 points with 'Bellevue'. The winner though was Nord/Lommerse/NJJ de Wit/Team Hobaho who showed a  perfect oldtimer, ‘Pink Pearl’. The jury spoke of a beautiful colour. The relation between flower and leaf was good. Besides this the entry was sturdy and compact and the combination with the long name gained the first prize with 9.35 points, and also the denomination  Best Hyacinth of Keukenhof 2011, thus gaining the Extra Prize - the Keukenhof Prize.

White/yellow

In this category of colours Kwekersvereniging Markglory had its best entry with 'Yellowstone'; the combination Nord/Lommerse/NJJ de Wit/Team Hobaho came near with ‘White Pearl’, but the winner became Hogervorst/Van der Salm from Lisse with a new hyacinth under number: a sturdy and especially pure white hyacinth. The First Prize with 9.25 for an attractive and promising white species.

Blue/purple

A contest in which the differences in scores were small. Nord/Lommers/NJJ de Wit Hyacinten Team Hobaho hada strong contestant with ‘Blue Pearl’, which received 9.25 points. The winner though was found in the novelties, a hyacinth  with the beautiful score of 9.30 points. This novelty is  a beautiful addition to the double assortment. J.S. Pennings from Breezand was to receive the first Prize.

Stands

For the entries with a score higher than 9.0 points for their total presentation an Extra Prize was to be awarded by Keukenhof. Five entries were in the race, being:

  • with 9.0 points the presentation of hyacinths of KAVB productgroep Hyacinth from Hillegom,
