Plantion shows quality on Relation Day

After the opening a year ago, VKC was asked to judge during Relation Day on the new auction. Ten contests were to be judged by the independant specialist jury of VKC. This organisation plans to change and renew judging in the future and thus experiments with trade judgements.

Tulips

An interesting contest with many entries in a wide assortment. Th.C. Hoogenboom & Zn from Roelofarendsveen excelled with his tulip 'Bloody Mary'. The dark red cultivar received 9.23 points and second place. His best entry however became 'Red Power', a nice dark red tulip in a perfect quality, with large uniform flowers in perfect ripeness. This all got him the 1st Prize with 9.33 points.

Flowering potplants

The most important representatives were Kalanchoe, Saintpaulia, Anthurium and Hydrangea. Fa. De Boer Natuur BV from Someren showed a Hydrangea 'Blauer Zwerg' in perfect quality, good for 9.45 points. Second became Kalanchoe Rosalina Don Juan; a red cultivar in a uniform entry got 9.5 points. KP Holland from Naaldwijk was the entrant. The big winner became the house plant Genista spachiana. This very rich flowering, large uniform plant was a striking show item. The super qulity was valued at 9.55 points and the 1st Prize for Kon. Terra Nova from Aalsmeer.

Various cut flowers

Here an interesting contest with lots of products like forced shrubs, cut Anthurium and Lisianthus as the most important contestants. A.H. Rutgrin & Zn from Lisse surprised the jury with his entry of Astilbe 'Washington', a white Astilbe with a great uniform presentation and dark pure leaves: 9.33 points. Second of more than a50 entries became Eustoma russelianum 'Piccolo White'. The jury spoke of a perfect branch with many flowers which scored 9.38 points. The winner though became the striking Syringa vulgaris 'Mad. Florent Stepman'. An overwhelming entry with large flower sprays in perfect ripeness. The purity of the flowers and their uniformity showed an excellent growing result, shown by the Heester Collectief from Aalsmeer: 9.53 points and the 1st Prize Overall.

Bulbous crops

A mix of garden and tub plants, shrubs and perennials. The Anisodontea capensis 'Elegans Princess' showed up because of the richness of pink flowers. The score was 9.1 points and the third place was for Kwekerij Beijer from Bemmel. Son & Koot BV from Kaatsheuvel showed Photinia 'Pink Marble'; also Exochorda 'Niagara, a combination of winding plant and shrub was of overwhelming beauty. The entry showed rich flowering healthy plants for which the 1st Prize and 2nd Prize Overall were presented.

Chrysanthemum

The thirty entries made a beautiful picture, in which the colour green was strikingly present.  The second prize with 9.55 points was for the green Santini 'County'by C. van Wijk from Poederoooijen; the third prize was for a pinched white spider 'Anastasia'by Alberco Flowers from Rotterdam.

The contest for the first prize resulted in a close finish with 9.60 points for the also green 'Anastasia Dark Green', a wonderful green pinched chrysanthemum by Delights from De Lier. Striking were the uniform appearance, the sound leaf and sturdy stems. Also the 3rd Overall Prize was awarded to this contestant.

Cut green/foliage shrubs

In this category a small number of contestants, with a fine quality products. The winner became  Avinoam Carmeli from Israel with Fatsia Japonica with a score of 9.30 points. This beautiful product with deep cut, dark green  leaves were healthy and shiny and of perfect shape.

Rose

A beautiful assortment of a product which unfortunately becomes smaller in the Netherlands. It was striking that participation from foreign entries is getting larger. The 3rd prize was won by Rosa 'Selone'A-1 by Britain Flowers Ltd. from Kenia. Second became Kwekerij Bernard JR. from Luttelgeest with the Rose 'Lexani'Avalance+, with a score of 9.25 points. The first Prize was also for the Kenian company Britain Flowers with the rose 'Olijparis' Red Paris, which scored 9.33 points. This product was characterised with large uniform flowers, beautiful leaves and a sturdy stem.

Gerbera

The Gerbera entry showed a nice mix of minis and large flowering types in a large diversity of colours. The third prize was for the large flowering Gerbera 'Crush' with a bright pink colour by WB Gerbera's from De Kwakel: 9.20 points. Second became J.A.J. Heemskerk with a small difference for mini Gerbera 'Kimsey', a light pink flower with a total of 9.23 points. For the 1st prize a score of 9.25 points was needed. Gerbera 'Ambiance', a beautiful large flowering Gerbera in pink-red colour with a light edge and black heart was judged as being very uniform. WB Gerbera's BV from De Kwakel were the entrants of this product.

Alstroemeria

A small entry of great quality, where Kwekerij De Hazekamp from Brakel scored best with 9.44 points for Alstroemeria 'Teshercu' Hercules. A pink Alstroemeria with sturdy stem and beautiful leaves. The large flower screens nicely rose above the leaves.
