Lily Show Keukenhof 2011

Lily show with pure character like in the past
A show with a clearly different character than in the past years. After a number of meetings the set up was changed. It was decided to go back to the pure lily presentations on the vase, like they were in the past. The consequence was that the contest programme had to be changed: more groups were put together and stand judgement no longer took place. This leads to the following results:
Asiatic group and LxA
A wide assortment in a fine quality, but somewhat less innovating, was offered to the VKC jury. Marklily CV from Lisse had its best entry with Lilium 'Eyeliner', a wonderful, ripe lily with a uniform character: good for 9.37 points. Gebr. Vletter en Den Haan from Rijnsburg scored higher with the yellow LA 'Nashville', but gained the Award with Lililum 'Pratolo', a yellow LA with large uniform flowers, wonderful leaves and a sturdy stem. 9.42 and the Award was theirs.

Asiatic pot
The ripeness stage is a determinating factor in judging, a fact that was well understood by the entrants. The jury judged quality of flower and bud and leaf and a correct relation between flower, leaf and pot. The final winner was ´Goldwing´ by The Originals BV from Noorden, which qualified on all criteria. This lily had beautiful yellow flowers, and was nice and compact with beautiful leaves and was good for 9.3 points and the Award.

Oriental Pot
Also here the jury was surprised by the fine quality. More than 20 entries were offered for judging. Also here The Originals BV from Noorden and G.A. Verdegaal en Zn. Exp from Noordwijkerhout showed fine entries with respectively ´Souvenir´and a cultivar under number. They scored 9.18 points. The top score was for the novelty POR2100/303 with 9.32 points. The aubergine coloured lily with fine white edge was in perfect condition with best bud presentation and nice smooth flowers.

Other pot lilies
The lily company received the Award for Lilium P238 with 9.09 points because of the great number of buds. The Lily Company BV from Andijk showed how the lily world was created with a great number of species and cultivars from the outset of lilies.
Oriental group incl OxT
The competition was extremely exiting with minimal differences. VKC saw a high quality show without any standing out products. 60 entries had to be judged. The Originals BV from Noorden had ´Joop´ as their best entry. Mak Breeding BV from Wieringerwerf showed ´Camengo´and ´Tabledance´, two beautiful vases of lilies. They all scored 9.35 points. However, the rather new cultivar ´Sellano´by Gebr. Vletter and Den Haan from Rijnsburg scored the Award with a white Oriental of uniform quality with heavy buds in the top of the stem, which secured optimal presentation. 9.38 points and the Award were theirs.

Lilium longiflorum and the LO Group
Favourites for the Award were ´Illusive´ by Mak Breeding BV from Wieringerwerf and the ´White Triumph´ by Royal van Zanten Flowerbulbs from Hillegom. However, the Award was for the Lilium Watch Up by Marklily from Lisse. This bright white cultivar is a nice light upgoing longiflorum with beautiful flowers and leaves in the correct relation to eachother. 9.42 points and the Award was theirs.

Other lilies
During a great number of years the Lily Company BV from Andijk has shown a beautiful assortment of garden lilies, of a yearly improving quality. This time Lilium Martagon Album was good for the Award with 9.22 points.

INNOVATION AWARD
An innovating or important breakthrough in breeding± these are the criteria for the candidates. No nominations were entered, and the jury, in judging the entire show, found that although the quality was high with beautiful O x T varieties with nice dark colours and a high quality of LA´s and Orientals, no real innovation of break through was present at this show.
The Keukenhof Lilies 2011
Starting point is to reward the participants with the highest quality valuation. The criterium is that the winner derives from the three highest scores from the four contests or the four best scores from the entry Asiatic and Oriental. Three contestants were close together, Mak Breeding BV from Wieringerwerf, Marklily CV from Lisse and Gebr. Vletter en Den Haan from Rijnsburg. The last mentioned was the receiver of the Award.
