Dahlia championships 2011 in Ootmarsum

The cold and wet summer of 2011 could have spoilt everything, but although the weather conditions were bad, an extraordinary quality Dahlias was shown at the National Championships Dahlia 2011. The Open Air Museum Ootmarsum offered a great background for this colourful splendour.

The following prizes were given by the VKC professional jury:

7 stems Dahlia cut (PrindsBernhard Cup)
3rd prize for Dahlia Moorplace by Van Gerven from Veldhoven with 9.30 points.
2nd prize in this category is for Cees vd Bosch from Veldhoven with 9.35 points for Dahlia Oakwood.

The highest number of points in the categories for amateurs however goes to Renate Verhagen with Dahlia Citizin with a total of 9.50 points; she thus wins the Prins Bernhard Cup. The pink semi cactus Citizin had a good colour, the shape of the flower and  leaf qualilty were perfect. To obtain this quality in the weather conditions of the last few weeks is excellent.

Stands
Once more it should be stated that the weather conditions put the products under terrible pressure this summer and the quality shown today may be called outstanding results. In the category Stands only 5 contestants were competing for the first prize: a painting by the local art painter Bert Jansen. Although it was quite difficult to pick the best, the choice finally was on Dahlia Society Almelo. The varied presentation and good quality was valued with 9.1 points.
