Lilium Signum big winner at BolleNoord, Zantedeschia entries of high quality level

During the last few years the Jury Department of VKC sees an improvement of lilies. Not only the number, but also the quality which growers present, is getting better each year, especially when you look at the problem to enter high quality lilies from outdoors. During the judging on 7 September also breeders showed great lily as well as Calla products. An interesting show for specialist as well as the general public. The organisation handed out the following prizes:

Zantedeschia cut flowers

Uniform flower size, shape and colour are important in judging. A.H. Prins from Breezand entered a bright white Zantedeschia under number which scored 9.50 points. Kapiteyn Group entered 'Captain Trinity', a light orange/yellow cultivar with a beautiful flower shape and colour: 9.6 points, and the winner became 'Captain Safari'. this dark orange/yellow cultivar was striking because of its large flowers, immaculate shpae and perfect long, strong stem. The Cup was for Kapiteyn Group with 9.65 points.

Zantedeschia pot plants

Also here A.H. Prins drew the attention: the light pink Zantedeschia 'Samur' had an abundance in flowering and a lovely flowr shape. The entry gained 9.40 points. Sande BV from 't Zand won with the entry 'Red Alert'. This orange/red Zantedeschia stood out with large flowers, the correct pot/plant relation and the beautiful spotted leaves: 9.65 points and the Cup!

Forced Oriental / OxT

Nearly 30 entries were offered for judging. Dolf de Wit & Zn VOF from Heemskerk showed 'Manissa' and 'Parasol', two strong contestants. Johan Aardenburg & Zn. from Heemskerk also entered two great lilies: 'Hip Hop' and Signum. this last mentioned, standing Oriental had a great bud presentation and beautiful open flowers of a bright colour. The entry scored the Cup with 9.40 points.

Lily Asiatic / LxA

Also here more entries with a fine quality. Bredefleur from Moerkapelle showed the red cultivar 'Original Love', a nice vase of lilies which scored 9.26 points. He also became second with the cream yellow lily Gerrit Zalm 'Trebbiano'. The striking colour of the uniform flowers gave a score of 9.28 points. The winner here became Jurgen de Graaff, recently the winner of the Plasbokaal, with his entry 'Eremo'. The niform orange colour was very pure, also the leaves were of great beauty. This great quality scored 9.44 points and the Cup!

Other lilies

Three entries are worth while mentioning: Bredefleur showed 'the longiflorums 'White Heaven'and Watch Up' in a fine quality, but M.M. Duin from Heemskerk ran off with the Cup with 9.30 points. His entry of longiflorum 'White Heaven' stood out with large uniform flowers, a great stem structure and exceptional quality of all flowers. The correct ripeness stage was settling the matter for winning the Cup.

Conclusion: A show which shows lots of innovations with an improving quality of all flowers, in and outdoors grown, for lilies as well as Callas.
