Trade Fair Rijnsburg 2011
The first VKC judgement at the third edition of the two-yearly Trade Fair is a fact. With more than 100 product entries this event may be called a success. It has been decided to expand the the package of trade judgements with the product group Various Cutflowers. The starting point is showing the product on trade conditions e.g. presented in a sleeve in auction ripeness. Besides this entries could be made for the existing trade judgements like rose, flowering potplants and foliage plants. VKC was requested to form a trade jury for these specific products. Also a judgement for all stands at the fair was organised. The three best nominated stands were highlighted, by special prizes for all these judgements. Growers were to present the best quality to the market. The prizes were divided as follows:
Rose
Nearly 30 entries were offered for judgement, where shape and colour of the flower and bud, ripeness, stem quality and the quality of the leaf were judged. Meier Roses from Pijnacker with the rose Avalanche+ as well as Velden Roses from Wateringen with White Naomi knew exactly what they were doing by showing a super quality, which scored 9.85 points. There was one entry scoring higher: John van Os Rozen with his cherry lilac Rose Amalia which scored 9.86 points and thus the first prize for its special colour, good keepability and good handling possibilities of this rose. The colour is a welcome addition to the assortment.
Potplants
Flowering as well as foliage plants were judged. Skimmia japinica Rubella by Roland van der Werf scored best with 9.60 points, which was not good enough for a first prize however, as André de Gruyter BV from Rockanje scored 9.70 points for Pinus 'Nigra Pierrick Brégeon'. The jury spoke of top qualilty, a great compact structure of the plant with fresh green exposure. This Pinus got a well deserved 1st Prize.
Cutflowers
More than 50 entries were showed. The quality was high. Third became Gebr. Van de Lugt from Honselersdijk with Lisianthus Piccolo Wit, which showed uniform quality on the bucket, and scored 9.80 po9ints. A.H. van de Haak from Rijnsburg scored somewhat higher with the special crop Anigozanthos flavidus (kangaroo leg). The quality was heavy and scored 9.85 points, which was still not high enough for the first prize, which was for Westendorp from Klijndijk with the near perfect presentation Delphinium Kissy Brilliant mixed. The flowers and top quality were very uniform and in the correct ripeness stage. This pastel mix in blue, pink and white scored 9.95 points and thus the first prize.
Stands
The conditions for stand jugement were the message and recognisability of the stand, the original and creative presentation as well as the qualitly of the products shown. 15 nominees had to be picked from 150 presentations on the fair. It was a pity that a number of standholders were not ready with their stands at the moment of judging.
From the 15 nominees the three best were picked. BN Roses showed that simplicity scores high. The small stand focused on the red rose Naomi only. With this original presentation made the expression 'More is less' come true once more. Second became Paauw & Van Egmond from Rijnsburg with a clear message, a well denominated assortment of cutflowers for commission trade, shown in beautiful arrangements. The winner became Heembloemex from Rijnsburg with a total presentation of the theme Winter green. This strong presentation showed a large number of products in a clear and relaxed way. The jury unanimously awarded the first prize to this, the best, fair presentation.
