Trade judgements FloraHolland Trade Fair Aalsmeer

During the autumn version of the Trade Fair in Aalsmeer VKC has been asked to perform a trade judgement. The organisation has allocated a number of product groups of which they think they deserve extra attention. Thus the following products could be entered for judgement: rose, Alstroemeria, Gerbera and Large Green. This last group contains all green plants with a pot size as off 20 centimeters. The products were judged on the criteria for trade or auction, e.g. auction ripeness and products offered to the trade in the auction packing. With appr. 120 entries this judgement may be called a success. It can be expected that this way of judging will get more attention at the various fairs and exhibitions, more so because this way of judging is close to daily practice. In each product group one first prize could be given and the judges thus had no easy task, as the entered quality was high.
Rose
Nearly 60 entries were judged on quality. Meijer Roses from Pijnacker with the large flowered Rose Pearl Avalanche was a true winner. The light pink rose was characterised by its large buds, 100% uniformity and of top quality. The jury awarded the high score of 9.90 points. A good second became the cream white rose Ice Bear by Olij Rozen from De Kwakel with 9.80 points.

Gerbera
With 25 entries this newcomer in trade judgements Gerbera made a good start. Large flowering and minis were shown and been given high scores. The first prize was for the mini Gerbera Neon with 9.80 points. This entry by Holstein from De Lier drew the attention with its purple blue colour, the good stem quality and the large uniformity of the flowers.

Alstroemeria
Varieties like Lovely and Panorama were striking, but the overall winner with again a high number of 9.80 points was Alstroemeria Siberia by H.M. Tesselaar CS from Heerhugowaard. The withe Alstroemeria was valued for its stem quality and the spotless leaf quality and of course the large flower bud.

Large Green
Large Green was well presented with 30 entries. The quality was very good. The first prize was for a fantastic growing effort. Ficus cyathistipula by Andre Verdock from the Belgian Merelbeke scored 9.85 points for its great shape, short internodes and a naturally shining leaf.
