Winners Interpolis Quality Cup 2011 Cutflowers Royal van Zanten, Rijsenhout and Potplants Sion, De Lier

Also this year at HortiFair an entry by De Wilgenlei BV from Bleiswijk with Ficus lyrata, which also scored prizes in the past. The three large plants in a big decorative pot make this old Ficus a trendy plant, which can be used for many purposes. The beautiful compact plants were of a perfect colour and the three entered pots were looking similar.

The name Tesselaar Freesia CV from Heerhugowaard means quality. This firm once again got nominated, now with Freesia 'Purple Rain'. A Freesia of great uniformity with large double flowers, a beautiful 'comb' length, a nice sturdy stem and uniform flowers.

KP Holland from Naaldwijk also belongs to the top in Kalanchoe growing for a great many years. Their title candidate was Kalanchoe blossfeldiana 'Rosalina Don Nando'. The jury qualified this entry as a sleek lot of Kalanchoe with a sturdy structure. The flowers all were in the best flowering phase, which made the entry look uniform, which proved to be best.

A product that tries to present itself, because it is still early in the season, are forced shrubs. Wed.Jac. Hansen Kzn. & Zn from Aalsmeer entered Syringa vulgaris 'Dark Koster'. Especially for this time of the year an exceptional achievement! Syringas are judged on the length of the sprays and these had grown perfectly in the right colour. The large claws and the uniformity of the entry were great characteristics for a nomination.

Bromelias were largely represented. Geling & Zn from Rijsenhout entered Aechmea 'Mohican' in a uniform ripeness in inflorescence and colour of the leaf. The dark purple inflorescence rose beautifully from the leaves, which were nice and wide and undamaged and of a good green colour.

HortiFair is an international fair, which means that more and more entries from abroad are made. C.I. Colibri Flowers SA from Bogota, Colombia, confirms this with the spray carnation 'Negrita', which was nominated for its heavy quality and dark purplish red colour. Also the ripeness was optimal. It is a great achievement to enter products in this colour without any damage and difference in colour.

The Begonia Rex is a striking product. M. Koppe BV from Ermelo entered large examples of high quality. The Begonia Beleaf Morning Dew was en antry which was striking because of its outstanding colour of the leaf and characteristic leaf structure. The compact, uniform plants were shown without damage and in a super exhibition quality.

VOF LJ Noordam from Woubrugge entered Celosia Argentea 'Turbo Lilac Rose'. The great inflorecences were of a strikingly heavy, but also uniform quality. Also the colour of all stems was pure. The leaf was clean and beautiful, and this product can be called a unique growing achievement.

Sion from De Lier entered the orange red Pot Phalaenopsis under number 2338. The quality of the flower in colour and shape was perfect, also the shape and colour of the leaves was a great match. With two large flowering stems of good length, this nomination was a fact. The jury concluded, that of all nominated potplants this Phalaenopsis was the best potplant of HortiFair 2011.

Dekker Breeding BV from Hensbroek showed a rather new chrysantahemum. The white chrysanthemum had a special heart with a striking green colour and was nominated because of the uniformity of all flowers and the heavy stem structure and the sturdiness of the stem.

A product we are not so familiar with any more, but of great beauty, is the Bouvardia. The nominated cultivar Bouvardia 'Royal Daphne Fresco'was entered by breeder Royal van Zanten from Rijsenhout. This purple Bouvardia had the correct ripeness of all stems, heavy flower screens in a correct volume and also the side branches were fitting in nicely. The great quality made this product a true eye catcher and thus a wonderful promotion for the product. The jury was unanimous in its judgement that this entry should be called the best cutflower of HortiFair 2011.
